MCITP 70-640: Active Directory Trusts

20:45
Trusts in Active Directory create the pathways for authentication to occur. They are used to link Active Directory domains to each other and also link Active Directory domains to non Microsoft systems. Demonstration 08:56 In order to share resources between two domains, there must a trust or trusts connecting the two domains. Trusts do not provide access they only create a pathway to the destination. Think of trusts like roads: if you need to get to a house and there is a road between you and the house, you can drive to the destination. If the house is locked you won't be able get in unless you have the key. The same applies with trusts: you need the path to the resource via a trust and permission to access the resource. Trust direction (One-way or two) Trusts can be one-way or two-way. If the trust is two-way, then the domain on either side can access the other side. If the trust is one-way, the terminology used to describe the trust will usually be "Domain A trusts domain B." This means that domain A is the trusting domain and domain B will be the trusted domain. For a user in a certain domain to access a resource in another domain, the user needs to be in the trusted domain. Transitive trusts A transitive trust is when a trust can be extended outside of the two domains in which it was created. A domain connected via a transitive trust can thus access any other domain when there is a path of transitive trusts between that domain and the target domain. Non-transitive trust A non-transitive trust is a trust that will not extend past the domains it was created with. If domain A was connected to domain B and domain B connected to domain C using non-transitive trusts the following would occur. Domain A and domain B would be able to access each other. Domain B could access domain C. Domain A, however, could not access domain C. Even though the domains are indirectly connected, since the trust is non-transitive the connection will stop once it gets to domain B. In order for domain A and domain C to communicate using non-transitive trust you would need to create another trust between domain A and domain C. Think of it like having to catch two buses to get to your destination but only having one bus ticket. Transitive and non-transitive trusts will work together. When using both, the pathway through the network will simply stop as soon as a non-transitive trust is travelled over. Servers: Active Directory - Domains and Trusts

09:49
A number of years ago, I had bought several server and networking instructional video DVDs (Trainsignal, CBT Nugget, LearnKey) to stay sharp on those topics, but no matter which videos I viewed, I always had one complaint. None of the videos demonstrated concepts from a visual viewpoint. For example, if a video was explaining how spanning-tree would use BPDUs to prevent routing loops, the instructor would pull up a terminal window and show BPDUs being send and received by Cisco switches, and leave it up to the viewer to imagine what was happening. They might even display a few diagrams to give a general idea of what the networking topology looks like, but I still wanted more. Since I am a more visually orientated person, I would prefer to see an animation of switches connect to each other and BPDU packets interacting between the switches. I created these series of free videos for people like me who want to visualize what is happening, and not just simply hear a description of the process. Most people have to create network lab scenarios because the process is not clear to them. I have done my best using Cisco Packet Tracer and PowerPoint Animation to give my viewers a better understanding of how server and networking systems work at the visual level. I hope you will enjoy this and please let me know about any future instructional videos you would like me to create. Philip Brown Dallas, TX PhilipRayBrown@hotmail.com

*EASY FIX* The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed

02:16
How to solve "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed." in an orderly fashion! Find it helpful and got some spare satoshis layin around I'd appreciate an input: BTC 1J2KVQLHxyPCXotfz6FmNN6B777uXhE6Cx :) now: Login as local administrator. start - run - cmd as administrator - TYPE THIS IN CMD: netdom resetpwd /s:DC1.fq.dn /ud:dn\administrator /pd:* enter the domain admin password, and you are good to go! If the command throws an error try exchanging /s: to /server: /ud: to /userid: and /pd: to /passwordd:* -yes it is correct Obviously exchange dc1.fq.dn with YOUR domain controllers fully qualified domain name, and dn\administrator with YOUR domain name and domain administrative account For this you need to have the netdom tool (if you dont have it pre-installed) which is a part of the RSAT from microsoft, found here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee649281%28WS.10%29.aspx (along with some info and links to each RSAT corresponding to your OS version. Remember to enable the tool via control panel before you can start using it) I Hope you find this useful! Thank you. :)

VMware Workstation Tutorial - Domain Trust Relationship Failed

03:03
A virtual network with a Domain Controller and a client Workstation, when changing to a previous Snapshot on the client you may receive the error "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed" when logging in with a domain account. The solution is simple, log in as the Local Administrator on the client, run PowerShell 3.0 (with 'Run as Administrator' privileges) and execute the Reset-ComputerMachinePassword cmdlet with the Domain Controller. Reset-ComputerMachinePassword -Server [MyDomainController] Then, reboot the client computer and logging in with a domain account should function accordingly. Use PowerShell to reset computer trusts

14:34
Every now and again a computer will fall off the domain. This is the dreaded "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed" error. This can happen for a number of reasons. Sometimes a laptop has been away too long or a workstation has been turned off too long. Sometimes is happens for no good reason. Since the Windows NT 4.0 days I have been using to command netdom to reset the trust between the computer account and the domain. There is now a better way using PowerShell. This video is a follow up to my blog post: http://tunafreedolphin.com/2016/11/25/use-powershell-to-reset-computer-trusts/

Introduction to Domains

47:51
Info Level: Beginner Presenter: Eli the Computer Guy Date Created: April 2, 2010 Length of Class: 47 Minutes Tracks Servers Prerequisites Introduction to Servers Purpose of Class This class explains the benefits of using a domain structured network. Topics Covered What Domains Are Basic Concepts for Domains How Domains are Created Domain Controllers Trusts and using Multiple Domains Class Notes Introduction Domains provide an easier way for Administrators to manage Accounts, Permissions and Security for a large network. Domain Basics Domain controllers provide access keys to clients to allow or restrict access to network resources Single place to administer permissions and security Permissions and Security can be assigned to: Users, Groups, Organization Units Permissions mean access to shared resources such as files, folders and printers. Security means restrictions about changing desktop background, password policies, access to local drives. Ways to Have a doming Windows is the standard type of domain environment SAMBA -- Linux version of a PDC Novell -- Still exists... You need a business class Windows Operating System to join a domain. XP Pro, Vista Business / Ultimate, 7 Business / Ultimate Domain Controllers PDC/ BDC Structure. The PDC has a read and write copy of the security database. If the PDC fails a BDC will provide security information to the network. The BDC has a READ only copy of the database and so administrators cannot change user permissions on a BDC. A BDC can be promoted to a PDC. There is only one PDC in a domain at a time. Active Directory. All Domain Controllers have read and write access (Theoretically, this can be modified). Structure Trusts allow users from one Domain to log on to computer in another Domain. Small offices would never need this. This is for large corporations that own numerous companies. If the Geek from the parent company needs to do work on the computers at the child company a trust relationship between the domains would be created. There are multiple types of Trusts: One Way, Two Way, Transient Final Thoughts Domains are a great tool for large networks, but they require specialized computer technicians and equipment. Depending on the cost/ benefit analysis they may not be a good idea for small networks. Resources Novel Open Enterprise Server SAMBA Understanding Organizational Units
