What is codependency and Can Two Codependents Last in a Relationship Together

17:12
What is codependency and can two codependents last in a relationship together? Can a people-pleasing codependent last in a relationship with an avoidant codependent? I want to thank Ayesha for sending me such a great question. She is wanting to understand why she and her boyfriend have such a difficult time staying on the same page. When she is up he is down and when he is down she is up. This kind of dynamic is vibrational in nature and is the result of some kind of childhood neglect or abuse. When children are not raised to feel 'seen' they learn to believe they are unworthy. Rather than attract healthy people into our lives, we tend to attract people that mimic the relationships we had with our dysfunctional parents. If you had to chase your mother's approval you will then attract a mate that is emotionally unavailable. If you were smothered as a child, today you may crave the love you fear and have difficulty being vulnerable. If two people are committed to recovering from their childhoods then yes, I do believe two codependent people can save their relationship. However, if one person refuses to grow and that impacts the person wishing to expand, it may be time to reevaluate what the unhealed codependent relationship is costing. Children of narcissistic parents, who are now suffering from codependency symptoms, may be struggling to learn how to love themselves after narcissistic abuse. Narcissists tend to attract people pleasers, or codependent personalities. Because codependents are eager to please, because they seek outside validation, they are easy targets for narcissistic lovers, and friends. It is not easy to learn how to love yourself after narcissistic abuse, but with the right codependency recovery tools, it is possible. It is even possible to find love after codependency. Lisa A. Visualizing the Riemann hypothesis and analytic continuation

22:11
Understanding the Riemann hypothesis requires understanding a certain function which is famously confusing outside its "domain of convergence", but a certain visualization sheds light on how it extends. There are posters for this visualization of the zeta function at http://3b1b.co/store Thank you to everyone supporting on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/3blue1brown Music by Vince Rubinetti: https://soundcloud.com/vincerubinetti/riemann-zeta-function Check out some of Vince's other work here: http://www.vincentrubinetti.com/ For those who want to learn more about complex exponentiation, here are a few resources: - My video on the topic: http://youtu.be/mvmuCPvRoWQ - Mathologer's: https://youtu.be/-dhHrg-KbJ0 - Better Explained: https://goo.gl/z28x2R For those who want to learn more about the relationship between 1+2+3+4+... and -1/12, I'm quite fond of this blog post by Terry Tao: https://goo.gl/XRzyTJ Also, in a different video "What does it feel like to invent math", I give a completely different example of how adding up growing positive numbers can meaningfully give a negative number, so long as you loosen your understanding of what distance should mean for numbers: https://youtu.be/XFDM1ip5HdU Interestingly, that vertical line where the convergent portion of the function appears to abruptly stop corresponds to numbers whose real part is Euler's constant, ~0.577. For those who know what this is, it's kind of fun to puzzle about why this is the case. It's free and very enlightening. Dr. Berg talks about what you need to know if you don''t have a gallbladder. The gallbladder is a vital organ that stores and concentrates bile and when it's gone, fat digestion, fat soluble vitamin absorption (vitamin A, D, E, K) can be a problem. This is due to the function of concentration. The gallbladder concentrates bile by 5x - and without this, fat digestion and healthy fat absorption will be deficient. What are pure functions?

What are pure functions? I explore the definition, the term itself, and why functional programmers like pure functions. ►► Audio, Video, and Transcript available: https://lispcast.com/what-are-pure-functions/ ►► Subscribe on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/thoughts-on-functional-programming-podcast-by-eric/id1364166414 Transcript What is a pure function? Hello, my name is Eric Normand. These are my thoughts on functional programming. Please subscribe, and you'll get all the new episodes when they come out. Pure functions, this is a term that I think is a little unfortunate because the word pure implies virtue, cleanliness, and hygiene. It is not really about being hygienic. Pure functions originated, as far as I could research, with compiler design. If you could identify a function, let's say a C function, in your code, you're the compiler, you're identifying that this function only depends on the arguments, so the return value is just some combination of the arguments. That would give you a lot of leverage for optimizing in a way. It's a pure function. It doesn't depend on any variable. C variables are mutable, so they could change at any moment. If you could see that this function is always going to return the same value no matter when you run it, no matter what else is running because it's just based on the arguments, so you call it with the same arguments, it's going to give you the same value. You could run that function at compile time and replace that call to it with its return value at compile time. Just like you could say, "Well, I know 1+1 is 3. I'm going to just replace this 1+1 with a 3 and save a little bit of computation," you can do the same with a pure function. This term stuck in programming it doesn't mean quite that anymore. What it means is a function that does not have any side effects. That's a whole other term that's unfortunate. What are side effects? Some side effects that you might find are modifying a mutable variable or sending an email, reading from the database, updating some key-value store somewhere, something like that. Every time you run it, something is going to happen that can change the world and have some effect on the rest of the world, maybe just the rest of your program. A pure function it might not just be a combination of the arguments. For instance, it might read a constant. It might have some other input but it's an immutable input, so it's always going to be the same. It also has this same property that in theory at compile time, you could replace a call to this with the return value. That property is actually called referential transparency. You can take a call to the function and replace it with its return value. The compiler can do that if it's a pure function that's referentially transparent. They're interchangeable. You could say it's a pure function or it's a referentially transparent function. They're interchangeable. Functional programmers also want to be able to do mathematical reasoning. They use the term pure function to reference mathematical functions, which are different from, say, a JavaScript function. In a JavaScript function, you can do any calculation you want, but you can also send off AJAX requests. You can read input. You can do any kind of code you want, whereas a mathematical function is much more restricted. It defines a relation between the argument values and the return value. They don't call it that. They call it the domain and the range. The domain is the arguments, and the range is the return value. There's a relationship between the arguments, relationship meaning a mathematical relationship. You might say, "Well, this adds the arguments and then multiples them by three." That's the return value. The relationship is some formula to add and multiply and then return it. That mathematical function is also referentially transparent. Functional programmers use this term, pure function, to mean that it's a function that doesn't have any side effects, which implies that it's referentially transparent. It means it's timeless in the same way that mathematical function is timeless. For instance, addition is timeless. It's never going to change. You can run 3+7 as many times as you want, you're always going to get 10. If you can write a pure function in your code, you're going to have that similar property. This is important. It doesn't matter when you run it or how many times you run it. Every bit of code we have, in theory, we want to be able to test it. We want to be able to scale it out to multiple machines, at least multiple threads on our system. If you say, "It doesn't matter when you run it or how many times you run it," that means that I can run it in multiple threads.

Horsepower vs Torque - A Simple Explanation

What's The Difference Between Horsepower & Torque? Why Is Peak Acceleration At Peak Power? https://youtu.be/cb6rIZfCuHI Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Awesome Car Products: https://www.amazon.com/shop/engineeringexplained Which is better, horsepower or torque? Two words that are often stated in the car community, but often misunderstood. This video seeks to clarify the difference between the two, without silly analogies like "horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take it with you" (which, by the way, is highly inaccurate). Torque is a force acting at a radius, while horsepower simply incorporates time into the equation. This video will discuss the differences, how each applies to internal combustion engines, how they relate, what peak torque and peak horsepower actually mean, and how to analyze torque and horsepower curves. Finally, what's more important for acceleration, a car with lots of power, or lots of torque? Let's get technical. With the context of an engine: Power = Torque x Angular Velocity. In imperial units, this translates to Horsepower = Torque x RPM / 5252. Engineering Explained is a participant in the Amazon Influencer Program. Don't forget to check out my other pages below! Toaism is a religious or philosophical tradition of Chinese origin which emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao, or 'Way'. The Tao is a fundamental idea in most Chinese philosophical schools; in Taoism, however, it denotes the principle that is the source, pattern and substance of everything that exists. allan watts audio book alan watts book buddha buddhism christianity dao tao taoism daoism eastern religion nirvana philosophy meditation wu wei confucianism Photo credit: https://www.bbvaopenmind.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/the-meaning-of-human-existence-4.jpg

Exponentials & Power Laws

05:51
See the full course: https://goo.gl/9qB4CV Follow along with the course eBook: https://goo.gl/wQahvk Exponentials are a signature key of nonlinear systems, unlike linear growth exponential grow represents a phenomenon where the actual rate of growth is growing itself to generate an asynchronous development with respect to time and some very counter-intuitive events. In this module we will discuss the dynamics of exponentials and their counterparts power laws that represent a power relation between two entities. Transcription excerpt: Part of our definition for linear systems is that the relationship between input and output is related in a linear fashion, the ratio of input to output might be 2 times as much, 10 times as much or even a thousand times it is not important this is merely a quantitative difference, what is important is that this ratio between input and output is itself not increasing or decreasing. But as we have seen when we have feedback loops the previous state to the system feeds back to effect the current state thus enabling the current ration between input and output to be greater or less than its ratio previously and this is qualitatively different. This phenomenon is captured within mathematical notation as an exponential. The exponential symbol describe how we take a variable and we times it by another not just once but we in fact iterate on this process, meaning we take that output and feed it back into compute the next output, thus the amount we are increasing by each time itself increases. So lets take a quick example of exponential grow to give you an intuition for it. Say I wish to create a test tube of penicillin bacteria. Knowing that the bacteria will double every second, I start out in the morning with only two bacteria hoping to have my tube full by noon. As we know the bacteria will grow exponentially as the population at any time will feed into effect the population at the next second, like a snowball rolling down a hill. It will take a number of hours before our tube is just 3% full but within the next five seconds as it approaches noon it will increase to 100% percent of the tube. This type of disproportional change with respect to time, is very much counter to our intuition where we often create a vision of the future as a linear progression of the present and past, we will be discussing farther the implication of this type of grow later when we get into the dynamics of nonlinear systems but for the moment the important thing to note here is that in exponential growth the rate of growth itself is growing and this only happens in nonlinear systems, where they can both grow and decay at an exponential rate. Exponentials are also called powers and the term power law describes a functional relationship between two quantities, where one quantity varies as a power of another. There are lots of example of the power law in action but maybe the simples is the scaling relationship of an object like a cube, a cube with sides of length a will have a volume of a3 and thus the actual number that we are multiplying the volume by grows each time, this would not be the case if there was a simple linear scaling such as the volume being 2 times the side length. Another example from biology is the nonlinear scaling within the metabolic rate vs. size of mammals, the metabolic rate is basically how much energy one needs per day to stay alive and it scales relative to the animals mass in a sub-linear fashion, if you double the size of the organism then you actually only need 75 % more energy. One last example of the power law will help to illustrate how it is the relationships between components within a system that is a key source of this nonlinearity. The Middle East's cold war, explained

How two feuding countries are tearing apart the Middle East. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO The Saudis and Iranians have never actually declared war on each other. Instead, they fight indirectly by supporting opposing sides in other countries and inciting conflicts. This is known as proxy warfare. And it’s had a devastating effect on the region. Countries, especially poor ones, can’t function if there are larger countries pulling strings within their borders. And that’s exactly what's happening in the Middle East. The Saudi-Iranian rivalry has become a fight over influence, and the whole region is a battlefield.
