Business English lesson: describing products with descriptive vocabulary

07:43
This business English video tip is about describing products. You may need to do this for a potential customer. It could be for a sales presentation or meeting or you might be writing marketing material. One incredibly important thing to remember is to use strong, descriptive adjectives and adverbs. This will add power to your presentation. It will help bring your product alive and make the presentation, sales meeting or marketing literature a lot more effective. In the video, I use an example of a review of the iPhone 6 which Stephen Fry wrote for The Guardian. You can read the full review here: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/sep/17/-sp-stephen-fry-iphone-6-verdict-most-exquisite-mobile-ever-made For more general English or business English tips, make sure to check out our other videos: Business English coaching tip- conflict management: http://youtu.be/Y0vXtsEcaOI Business English presentations tip- starting a presentation: http://youtu.be/FiAPCMBI1Ug Business English presentations tip- ending a presentation: http://youtu.be/RYpMfegATZo Business English grammar tip- uncountable nouns http://youtu.be/-GTYorZwtA8 Business English for negotiations tip- conflict situations http://youtu.be/sX1FzBnF8aQ Business English small talk- telling an anecdote http://youtu.be/oMnSsJfA-dM Business English coaching- storytelling Mehr Information auf http://www.neilcollins.de Neil Collins Business English Training & Coaching Senefelderstraße 15 Prenzlauer Berg 10437 Berlin

Tips for Negotiations. If sentences. Free Business English lesson.

06:38
In a negotiation or a similar business English situation, there are some structures you can always use. "If" sentences are vital in a business negotiation. When you are considering your options, you can use the second conditional. This can be polite, diplomatic and indirect. We use it when we want to "test the water" and see how our partner will react. We also use the second conditional to talk about hypothetical situations. In the later stages of a negotiation, we can use the first conditional. This is more direct and more real. We use it when we want to bargain- to exchange one thing for another. If you learn these simple grammatical structures, they will really help your business English level. Mehr Tipps auf http://www.neilcollins.de In an international meeting, you should be able to suggest ideas, define them and make promises. If you are too vague or unclear, your business partner may get frustrated. Neil Collins Business English Training & Coaching Senefelderstraße 15 Prenzlauer Berg 10437 Berlin

This is Neil Collins. So one of my youtube followers korona821 asked me to explain what "ain't" means. Now this word "aint" is a super useful and versatile word. And in this video, I'm going to show you what it means. Enjoy. Main part: So "ain't" means "am not", "are not", "is not" or "do not have" or "does not have". But "ain't" is slang, so it's probably closer to the contracted forms of those words, so what that means is, "ain't" is closer to "amn't", "aren't", "isn't", "doesn't have", "don't have": It's often used with the verb "to be", but it's also used with "there" and you can also use twitch the verb "have". So, let's have look at what that looks like. So as I as I said, it's often used with the verb "to be". So, for example: I am not You are not She is not He is not We are not You are not They are not But of course, as it's slang, it's closer to the contracted forms. So, the contracted forms of those would be: I amn't or I'm not You aren't She isn't He isn't It isn't We aren't You aren't They aren't And you can also use it with "there". There isn't So, that would be, for example: I ain't You ain't She ain't He ain't It ain't And you don't need to use the subject there. So, often, for example in songs, you would just say "ain't". And you would mean "I ain't". Or "ain't", and that could mean "you ain't". So we don't always use the subject. With "we aren't", it would be "we ain't", "you aren't", "you ain't", "they aren't", "they ain't". And then for example with "there isn't", you could say "there ain't". "They don't have", "they ain't" and "doesn't have" could be "he ain't". So, let's have a look at some song lyrics. In these lyrics, what does "ain't" mean? Ain't no sunshine when she's gone. So that means: there isn't any sunshine when she's gone. Ain't no mountain high enough. So, that means: there isn't any mountain high enough. If I ain't got you And that means: if I don't have you. You ain't going nowhere. Means: "you aren't going anywhere". And "Ain't nothing going on but the rent" There isn't anything going on but the rent. So, that's the video about "ain't". If you have any suggestions about what videos you'd like to see, leave a comment below in the comments and I will answer you and hopefully make a video about that soon. Talk to you soon. Hey guys. Thanks a lot for watching the videos. If you're wondering what you can watch next, well, you can watch more vocabulary, you could watch more grammar videos or you could watch more videos explaining typical German phrases. Simple...enjoy.

Nice to meet you or nice to see you? What’s the difference? English lesson

05:02
Sometimes when Spanish or German or Italian friends see me, they say “Hey Neil, nice to meet you.” And that’s not completely correct. They should say “Hey Neil, nice to see you.” In this video, I’m going to explain the difference between the two expressions. There are so many situations when you can use these phrases: in a business English meeting, at a business lunch or dinner, in a job interview, at a trade fair etc. Bit what is the difference between “Nice to meet you” and “Nice to see you”. And what is the difference between “Nice to meet you” and “It was nice to meet you” or “Nice meeting you.”; and “Nice to see you” and “It was nice to see you.” or “Nice seeing you.” This can be confusing, but it doesn’t need to be. Just watch this English video tip and I will explain. #nicetomeetyou #nicemeetingyou #nicetoseeyou # niceseeingyou #English #businessEnglish #neilcollins #businessEnglishBerlin #businessEnglishHamburg For more information about Neil Collins or Neil Collins, Business English Training, have a look at the following links: https://de.linkedin.com/in/neilcollinsberlin https://www.xing.com/profile/Neil_Collins4?view_mode=preview https://www.facebook.com/BusinessEnglishBerlin/ https://twitter.com/irishinberlin Neil Collins Business English Training & Coaching c/o Akazien Campus GmbH Akazienstr. 3 a 10823 Berlin Former Address: Senefelder Strass 15 Berlin 10437

How to help a customer in English/ Wie kann mann einen Kunden auf Englisch helfen!

03:56
Hi, all. I know many of you work in retail and have to speak with a lot of tourists or international customers. Did you know that the usual way to deal with problems is different? I've noticed that the typical way of doing it in Berlin is not the typical way a shop assistant would do it in London, Dublin or New York. So, this business English video tip tries shows you the difference. It shows you what you can say and what you can do if one of your customers has a problem with a product they've bought. Hope you enjoy the video. See you soon! :-) Sound effects and music from: http://www.orangefreesounds.com https://creativecommons.org/licenses/ If you'd like more information about business English courses, feel free to write me an email at: neil@neilcollins.de For general information, feel free to visit the website: www.neilcollins.de If you would like more information about Neil Collins or Neil Collins, Business English Training, feel free to click on these links: https://de.linkedin.com/in/neilcollinsberlin https://www.xing.com/profile/Neil_Collins4?view_mode=preview https://www.facebook.com/BusinessEnglishBerlin/ https://twitter.com/irishinberlin Former address: Neil Collins Business English Training & Coaching Senefelderstraße 15 Prenzlauer Berg 10437 Berlin Current business address: Neil Collins Business English Training & Coaching c/o Akazien Campus GmbH Akazienstr. 3 a 10823 Berlin Transcript: Introduction: Hi everyone. This is Neil Collins. If you work in a department store or in retail or in customer care on the telephone, what can you say and what can you do if a customer has a problem. Wie kann man eine Kunde auf Englisch helfen. Watch the video and find out. Main part: So this is what sometimes happens in a shop in Berlin. So a customer will go to the information desk or to a shop assistant and say: “Excuse me?" And the shop assistant will say: "Yes, can I help you?" Or "what's the problem?" And the customer will say: "I bought this last week and it’s broken.” The shop assistant will take the product, have a look at it and then say something like: “Yes, theres a problem with this. This has a year's guarantee. Here is a voucher. Take it to the electronics department. They will give you a new one." And that's it. So, it’s a very fast and efficient system. There's a problem. There's a solution. And that's fine. And that works. But, if you are in an English speaking country, we don't have that two part system, like problem-solution. We would probably have more like a three part system. So, if you are in a shop, in the same situation, in London or New York or Dublin, you would go to the shop assistant and then the first step would be the same. So, the shop assistant would say: “How can I help you?” Or “What seems to be the problem, sir?” “What seems to be the problem, madam?” "What can I do for you today?" And then the second step, and this would be the difference, I think this is the important step; the second step would be to say sorry or express sympathy or empathy for the problem. So when the customer says: “I bought this last week and it doesn't work.” The shop assistant would say: “Oh, I'm sorry about that.” Or "Sorry to hear that." And then show some sympathy or empathy. Say something like: “Oh, I hate when that happens.” Or “Oh, that happened to me last week. That’s really annoying.” Or something similar. "It's really irritating when that happens." And then the customer feels like the shop assistant cares or the shop assistant really understands his or her problem. And that makes them feel good. And then, the third step would be to provide the solution. So, then to say: "Yes, this has a one year guarantee." “Here is a voucher." "Take this to the electronics department." "They will give you a new product.” And then the customer will say: "Oh, thank you very much." "You're welcome. Have a nice day." So, it's just this small difference between this two part problem-solution and this three part system of like problem, say sorry and express sympathy and then offer the solution. Hope this video was helpful for you. Remember if you like the video, hit the like button. And if you haven't already subscribed to my channel, please subscribe to my channel. And turn on the notifications. And then you will know every time we upload a new video which is usually every Wednesday. Thanks a lot for watching. See you next week. Hey guys. Thanks a lot for watching the videos. If you're wondering what you can watch next, well, you can watch more vocabulary, you could watch more grammar videos or you could watch more videos explaining typical German phrases. Simple...enjoy.

Top 10 email phrases with HOPE

06:04
In business English, email is hugely important. But, you normally don't have time to spend on every single email. You need to be able to write short, quick and also polite emails. If the email is too long, you lose valuable time. If you are too slow, you lose time. And if you are impolite, you may lose clients! What's the secret to writing short, quick and polite emails? You need to have email expressions that are very flexible and also become automatic. Email expressions you can use again and again. In this business English video tip, I'm going to show you how you can do that. I'll tell you my top 10 email phrases with the word "hope". Hope you enjoy this business English video tip. ;-) If you would like more information about Neil Collins or Neil Collins, Business English Training, feel free to click on these links: https://de.linkedin.com/in/neilcollinsberlin https://www.xing.com/profile/Neil_Collins4?view_mode=preview https://www.facebook.com/BusinessEnglishBerlin/ https://twitter.com/irishinberlin Neil Collins Business English Training & Coaching c/o Akazien Campus GmbH Akazienstr. 3 a 10823 Berlin Former Address: Senefelder Strasse 15 Berlin 10437 Transcript: Hi everyone, this is Neil Collins. If you're really busy and you need to write a lot of short, quick but also polite emails, there are so many phrases that you can use with the word hope. And this video, I'm going to tell you 10 email phrases with "hope". Enjoy! So, some of these email phrases with hope you can use only at the start of the email. Some of them you can use only at the start of the email. And some of them you can use at the start or at the end of the email. So, let's look first at the ones you can use only at the start of the email. If it's Monday morning, you could write in your email: "Hope you had a good weekend" Or if it's Monday evening or Tuesday morning, you can start the email by saying "Hope you had a great start to the week". If it's the middle of the day or the middle of the week, you could write at the start of your email: "Hope you’re having a good day" or "Hope you’re having a good week" and if you know that the person you're writing to has just been on holiday and has just come back, you could say: "Hope you had a good holiday" or "Hope you had a nice day off". So, I'll write them here for you. So, one more tip about these, this would be if you're writing to one person, if you want to make that plural, you're writing to a group of people, just add all here. So, you could say: "Hope you all had a good weekend. Same with this one "Hope you all had a great start to the week". "Hope you’re all having a good day" or "Hope you’re all having a good week" or "Hope you all had a great holiday." So, let's have a look at some of the phrases that you normally only use at the end of the email, here. So you would say here "Hope things are good with you" or "Hope to see you soon" or "Hope to talk to you soon". If you say one of those last two expressions: "Hope to see you soon" or "Hope to talk to you soon", you're saying that, you don't know when exactly you will see them or you will talk to them bit you would like to see them soon or you'd like to talk to them soon. So, I'll write those phrases for you here. Okay, also, like these phrases here, with these three as they are written here, you're writing to one person. If you are writing to more than one person and you want to make these plural, just put in the word "all" as well. So, for example, Hope things are good with all of you", "all of you" here, or "Hope to see you all soon" or "Hope to talk to you all soon". And then after these phrases you would say "Best Regards" or "Best" or "Kind Regards" or "Regards", Neil. So, this would be the closing phrase , one more word and then your name. Okay, so there are some other phrases you can use at the start or at the end of your email. Let's imagine for example this is the start of your email. So, you say for example "Hi Lupita" and then you would have your opening expression here. I'll also show you, if it was the end of the email, so far example you say "All the best, Neil." So the phrases you can use at the start or at the end would be "Hope all's well with you" or if you know that someone had a big presentation or meeting, you can say: "Hope the meeting went well" or "Hope the presentation went well" or if someone you're writing to was just at a trade fair for example , you can say "Hope the trade fair was fun" or "Hope the trade fair was interesting". So, I'll write them here for you. So the important thing to realise here is, don't repeat these phrases. DOn't have one of these phrases at the start of your email and at the end of the email. It's at the start or at the end. So, you could say: "Hi, Lupita, "Hope all's well" or "Hope all's well with you". At the end of the email: (I) Hope you’re well. Hope things are good with you. Hope to talk/ see to you (all) soon.
